This weekend Ariana Grande joined the small yet impressive list of musicians who doubled as hosts on SNL. Take that, Timberlake.
The Problem singer appeared as the musical guest last season when Chris Pratt held hosting duties and showed off her comedic timing in a small number of skits. During Saturday’s show, Grande added a second skill, with spot-on celebrity impressions.
In a skit similar to Bruno Mars’ Pandora, which the singer performed when he was also the host and musical guest in 2012, Grande plays Chloe, an intern at Jay Z’s struggling Tidal Music. When the power goes out and the streams being to go down, Chloe steps in to keep the Shakira, Rihanna, Celina Dion, Britney Spears and Whitney Houston channels alive. But not the Ariana Grande channel. Chloe isn’t much of a fan.
This isn’t the first time fans have been privy to Grande’s eerily impressive impersonations. The former Sam & Cat star has also blown our minds during Wheel of Musical Impressions on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
Later in the night, Grande also showed that she can also channel actresses when she portrayed a spot-on Jennifer Lawrence during a game of Celebrity Family Feud. Did we just learn how Lawrence has found time to make nine (approximately) movies with David O. Russell in three years? Is Grande sharing the workload?
