It’s no secret that 2015 has been a big year for beefs, many of them featuring the same players. Since the MTV VMAs are pretty much a yearly high school reunion for pop’s biggest names, it’s also the place where dirty laundry gets aired. Sunday night has never been so juicy.
Here’s how some of pop music’s biggest beefs played out at the MTV VMAs.

Taylor Swift Vs. Nicki Minaj
Taylor Swift and Nicki Minaj got caught up in a non-beef-beef earlier this summer when Nicki took aim at the VMAs over Anaconda’s lack of nominations and Swift thought she was being called out by the rapper. Swift apologized on Twitter and was dragged through the media, with Nicki coming to Swift’s defense and tweeting that the two spoke and things were good between the pair. Minaj went a step further and invited Swift to open the show with her, even singing a few bars of Bad Blood.
Britney Spears Vs. Miley Cyrus
Britney Spears was the first presenter for the 2015 MTV VMAs and even though she hasn’t gotten herself involved in any feuds this year, she still made a joke about starting one. Miley introduced Ms. Spears, saying she’s the one person who always takes her calls. Spears joked that she picks up for Miley because she usually thinks it’s Taylor Swift. A quick camera pan back to Cyrus shows the host mouthing the word ‘bitch’. Ten minutes in and we’ve already got a new feud!
Meek Mill Vs. Drake
A pre-taped skit showed Miley Cyrus hanging with rappers (and MikeWillMadeIt). She suggested they do fun sleepover stuff, like cover Meek Mill’s house in toilet paper. The group decided against it, agreeing that the Drake-dissed rapper had been through enough this year.
Kanye West Vs. Taylor Swift
Kanye West is seen laughing with wife Kim Kardashian and friend John Legend when Taylor Swift wins Best Female Video for Blank Space against Beyonce. Yes, Kanye got déjà vu to that time he stormed the VMA stage too. Taylor later introduced Kanye when he won the Video Vanguard Award and he talked about the infamous stage-crashing…we’re still not sure whether he’s sorry about that.
Miley Cyrus Vs. Nicki Minaj
Miley Cyrus made comments earlier this week to the New York Times about her upcoming hosting gig, saying that she didn’t think Nicki Minaj was “too polite” and that the rapper went about her VMA snub the wrong way. Nicki addressed Miley head on after she won Best Hip Hop Video for Anaconda, cautioning Miley by saying “Don’t play with me bitch” and asking the rhetorical question, “What’s good?” Awkwardness, that’s what’s good. Cyrus responded by telling Minaj that quotes in interviews are often twisted, but that she also hasn’t gotten upset in the past when her videos weren’t nominated for Video of the Year. Shit. Got. Real.
